Mike, re: "I think for the most part you do but your anger for Bush and this admin may cloud your judgement and we get "convergence" in views and you find yourself as a realist closer to rice/biden than kerry/dean??"

I don't see it that way. I am angry at Bush and his administration but not because they're Republicans or because I don't like their personalities. I'm angry at them because of what they've done to harm this great country and to place my children and potential grandchildren at greater risk. Then too, there are the other billions of people on the planet who face a grimmer future because of the path we've taken and the choices we've made in the use of our great military power.

I'm apolitical enough so that I couldn't even tell you what the current views of Rice/Biden or Kerry/Dean are. I do know that of the people you've named, and in view of their past positions, only Dean has revealed a realistic understanding of the complexities and taken a solid stand. Rice is educated far beyond her ability to think and I've never seen her offer more than simplistic slogans, Kerry is frozen by his fear of damaging himself politically and he's never taken a clear overall stand, and Biden sees the problems fairly clearly but his past suggestions that we could solve them with more troops was too late. Dean has said clearly and accurately that we never should have gotten involved but that after we did we must get out reasonably quickly and with the least amount of U.S. damage, leaving the Iraqis to solve their own (partially U.S. now-contributed to) problems. If that's still his position then I would agree.

I think we are in agreement, but you sometimes confuse me when you look at the narrow issues identified by the Bush people and fail to articulate the overall perspective of our interests in Iraq and how those narrow issues may, or may not, impact the important issues facing this country. Ed
