I was a lower class kid myself as a child (not lower middle class, just plain lower class) so I know the difference a teacher can make. I had teachers who just refused to let me do less than my best, to the point of calling my parents and informing on me.

The difference in my life has been that my parents cared what my teachers had to say about me.

But without parents who care I don't think a kid has a chance. And I don't think you can care for your kids without caring for the community they grow up in.

In the world as it is, as opposed to the world as I wish it would be, I don't think any proposed solution from the outside will do anything but make the problem worse.
