James,

On the baseball issue - its a pretty bi-partisan process and congress has always had a relationship with baseball, like it or leave it.

For most of the republican and conservative faithful on this thread we have broken in to two distinct camps - those that take the husbands side and objectify the others as religious zealots and those who value life and look on you as if you were suggesting we kill a child (one that is already born). I suspect a lot of us on the thread have faced some of these issues (I have) and some of us are getting on in years and starting to be fearful of winding up like Terri.

There is a middle ground - I for one do not believe in unnecessarily prolonging life, but that is the major discussion of the day - what is life? This is what drives the abortion and death penalty debates, etc.

I am not a religious zealot, but I oppose abortion, euthanasia (so I guess I don't qualify as a Democrat) and the death penalty (so I can't be a republican either :-). But I can be practical - life of the Mother, medical necessity etc and can see removing extraordinary means when life is ending rather than delay the inevitable.

Can you see that some of us don't view a feeding tube as an extraordinary item? That while recognizing she is severely disabled and will not recover - there is still dignity in life?

As for getting involved in a family matter - don't we all wish that the family had equitably settled this, but they didn't and here we are...

John
