Georgia Tech coach Paul Hewitt, whose team never got closer than eight points after the Cardinals made their first six shots, had few answers in the game, but he had the perfect word in the postgame news conference: "They just played an exquisite basketball game."

"I think we played all the best teams in the country -- Kansas, Gonzaga, Duke, Wake -- and they're right there," Hewitt continued. ". . . I know Washington is a great team, but Washington got a bum steer having two No. 1 (seeds) in their bracket. Because these guys are a No. 1."

Can the Cards make a run to the Final Four ? Georgia Tech's players, who made a run to the championship game last season, came away believers.

"I don't know if they can consistently shoot the ball the way they did tonight," Georgia Tech point guard Will Bynum said. "But if they can , they're definitely a championship team."

Said junior guard Jarrett Jack: "I think they're the best perimeter team we've seen from top to bottom."
