Wow what a paragraph in that NYT article.

"Some critics..." - I guess that just means the guys at the NYT sitting around having coffee?

Some critics oppose Mr. Wolfowitz on the grounds that he was responsible for so many military and political failures in Iraq (ed: And no successes?). It is true (ed: so it is true now, no longer just some critics saying this) that the civilians in the Pentagon were negligent (ed: wars never unfold in surprising ways requiring adaptation, they can all be predicted exactly in advance and failure to do so is negligence) in planning for the aftermath of war in Iraq; there weren't enough American troops and there were few contingency plans to secure the country against a potential insurgency. It is also true (ed: so it is true again, no longer just some critics who oppose Mr. Wolfowitz saying this) that Mr. Wolfowitz was naïve in predicting that American forces would be seen as liberators (ed: no one there thinks of them as liberators now?)instead of occupiers by many Iraqis, and that reconstruction could be financed largely through Iraqi oil revenues.
