I've tried 'em all. Having fun without work is like eating desert without the meal. You can stand it for a short period but after a while you long for the kind of mental rewards that come with tackling a difficult problem. Ask yourself why does someone like Bill Gates or Warren Buffet still work?

When I was younger, just after college, I was a very serious cyclist. I can remember being out in the middle of an 80 miler thinking that if I'd taken up cycling earlier, before I went to college, I'd have skipped college, skipped my career. Biking was just such a completely satisfying activity for me then and it produced nothing of value in the world, except maybe a better butt (which as most women know, does have a certain economic value).

One's priorities can change with age.

Two 80 year olds are playing tennis, one hits the ball out of the court and the other goes down the hill to find the ball. Next to the ball he encounters a frog sitting on a stone. The frog says, "I'm actually a beautiful young women, if you kiss me, I'll turn back into her. I promise to live with you, make love to you and take care of all your needs." The old guy picks up the frog and puts it in his pocket and starts walking up the hill. The frog says, "Hey, what gives, don't you want me to turn back into a beautiful young woman?" And the guy says, "At my age, a talking frog is far more interesting."
