We just do Valencias, which are great from late Feb through the early summer. Considered juice oranges, but just fine to eat off the tree if a little difficult to peel. I'm not sure if they grow other varieties in FL that ripen in the fall?

They call them juice oranges as well in CA.......and they are a pain in the butt to peel.That's why they are used mainly for juice. However, in CA, there are two crops......one in spring, and one in fall. That's one of the great things about citrus trees..........they produce two crops in one year. As one crop is ripening, new blooms appear on the tree for the second crop.

In CA, oranges with thin skins are juice oranges....Valencias......while there is the Navel orange for eating. Its easier to peel the skin off a Navel. I don't know if FLA has Navels.

I think there are a ton of orange varieties.........these are just two of them.

I was thinking of trying my luck at making a fruit salad tree... did the research but haven't had the time. Have you heard of those?

Is that where they graft branches from different types of fruits onto one tree? I did it as a science experiment in 8th grade.
