Remember you are still a minority. There is hope! You should be proud of these numbers.

There have been attempts to rally against America's gun culture, notably Michael Moore's Oscar-winning 2002 film Bowling for Columbine.

The documentary explored why Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris murdered their 12 of their schoolmates and a teacher at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, in April 1999. It challenged the National Rifle Association for its unquestioning support of the right to bear arms.

But in a country where a vocal minority is committed to its right to own weapons, gun deaths are reaching almost 30,000 every year in the US, which is more than ten times the total of all the next 25 industrialised nations combined.

Twelve American children die every day in murders, suicides and accidents involving guns. If the rate of gun death continues to rise at the same rate, guns will outstrip cars as the leading cause of death among children by the end of the decade
