Just heard Robin Wright of the WaPo speak at some journalist conference on Cspan. She pronounced the Mideast thaw real, and said she was "flabbergasted" by it. She noted the death of Arafat as creating opportunity, noted the improvements in Lebanon, Egypt, Saudi Arabia & said she was for the first time hopeful about the outcome in Iraq.

Gee, who would have guessed from reading her articles? If Arafat's death created such a big opportunity, maybe HE was the problem, as I don't remember the WaPo ever informing me. If the Iraq election was such a surprising success, maybe she should have listened to the soliders and the Iraqis working on the election - they were not surprised. Why was she?
