WESTMIN RESOURCES LIMITED AND ATNA RESOURCES LTD.- JOINT NEWS RELEASE NEW DISCOVERY ON SABLE ZONE STEP-OUT HOLES EXTEND WOLVERINE DEPOSIT TO THE EAST

VANCOUVER, Sept. 4 /CNW/ - Westmin Resources Limited:

Westmin Resources Limited and Atna Resources Ltd. report that they have
made a potentially significant discovery on the Sable Zone southeast of the
Wolverine Deposit and close to the boundary of the Puck Claims (under option
from Expatriate Resources Ltd). Hole WV97-106 obtained a thin, but high-grade,
massive sulphide intersection and hole WV97-108, 65 metres to the east
intersected visually similar mineralization (assays pending). Hole WV97-110 is
being drilled to intersect the mineralization 100 metres down dip of these
holes. The new intersections are significant because they indicate a separate
mineralizing centre 1,600 metres to the southeast of the Wolverine Deposit.
The Joint Venture partners report assays for four additional high-grade
massive sulphide intersections which extend the margins of the Wolverine
Deposit to the north and to the east. The eastern step-out holes, WV97-105
and WV97-102, intersected mineralization of 5.1 and 3.7 metres true thickness,
indicating a thickening of the Wolverine Zone. The potential for further
expansion of tonnage in this area is good as the only two limiting holes are
180 metres to the north and east.
Assays for all the new holes are included in the following table.

These holes bring the total number of 1997 Wolverine Deposit
intersections to 18, all outside the margins of the deposit as outlined by the
1995 and 1996 drilling (5.3 million tonnes grading 1.8% g/t gold, 359 g/t
silver, 1.4% copper, 1.5% lead and 13% zinc). The 1997 program has been
extended to follow-up on the encouraging eastern step-out holes and the newly
discovered Sable Zone mineralization.
Maps showing location of holes on the Lynx/Wolverine Zone, the Sable Zone
and stratigraphic holes are available upon request.
