I agree that its time to take a new tack on education. Motivation is key and it comes in many flavors. Some people just can't get enough information. It's true for me. I'm not a big literature fan, but I scour the Earth for science news. Always have. It's too bad the curriculum couldn't have been adjusted for my interests. Some kids like sports and playing ball keeps them motivated. Some kids want the phat shoes or clothes. In tribal cultures it was respect and disrespect was punished by banishment. I don't think that throwing everyone who isn't making a "C" into boot camp makes sense because there are people that would just end up being made a victim. My experience in the military showed that it was "leveling" in the same sense that mowing the lawn is leveling. You bring all the high points down to the low ones.
