It is to me just amazing that we ignore hypertension, diabetes cholesterol and a host of treatable and preventable diseases.
After a person has had his two heart attacks, three strokes, and is on dialysis, then he suddenly becomes important to save.
Here a poor helpless souls is kept alive at all costs in pain with decubiti, contractures, catheters, gastrostomy tubes, on dialysis.
A physician's primary role here should be to relieve suffering, the case is hopeless. Instead he puts these poor creatures in the ICU for six weeks to prolong the pain and suffering for everyone involved. Why? Because we (physicians. paramedics, nurses etc) are intimidated and afraid. Afraid of all these sadistic fruitcakes (like the ones on this thread) who might call us murderers. We know what we do is wrong, but we are afraid.
After all the lawyers might show up any minute. Lawyers have no pity and no fear. Lawyers only care about producing more briefs and intimidating the world. The last thing in the world we need is more lawyers involved in health care.
Where were all these heroes when they might have done some good? We need to spend all that money time and energy, in prevention clinics. THe aggressive treatment of such conditions as diabetes, hypertension, elevated lipids etc does save lives and prevent major disabilities.
We need to concentrate on keeping people out of nursing homes. Not prolonging their agony once they get there. |
