AARP Runs Misleading Ad on Social Security Reform

FactCheck.org explains why a recent ad run by AARP, which claims that personal retirement accounts would "dismantle Social Security" and "lead to huge benefit cuts," is misleading. According to FactCheck.org, "the ad is intended to be humorous but presents a distorted picture. It both understates Social Security's financial problems and misrepresents the effect that individual accounts would have."

I have a long way to go before reaching retirement, but I can guarantee I won't join AARP. I have another organization in mind.

UPDATE: Social Security: Broke in 2041. Treasury Secretary John Snow says this "leave no question that Social Security reform is needed and it is needed soon. Reform of this system, for the sake of our children, grandchildren and the financial future of our country, is a very real and pressing matter."
