Remembering the old 'Strictly Drilling and Oil Field Services' board. I see kollmhn posted here! (Hi kollmhn!) That got me thinking about the old 'Strictly Drilling...' board. I remember back some years ago that board was really great. There were quite a few regular posters there then who were very knowledgeable people with experience in various aspects of energy & investing. Sharing their thoughts & ideas. Lots of disagreement and differing opinion, but friendly & civil. Then after Slider showed up things changed. People who didn't like the carnival atmosphere his presence created stopped visiting the board. New people who admired Slider became regulars. Others left when disgusted by personal insults directed at them or others by him & his cronnies. The neighborhood became a slum. Eventually the 'Strictly..' board died altogether. I think most people who knew the old 'Strictly..' would agree that Slider and his co-baffoons killed it. Turned it into such a garbage dump that it was worthless even to them. ---- So far Slider has been well-behaved here, compared to his previous act on the old 'Strictly..'. But even so I see the BBR changing for the worse. And I see Slider loosening up. The future here does not look good, imo. The really interesting thing about Slider on 'Strictly..' was how he had so many people believing he was much more accurate and successful than he actually was. Slider has a huge amount of self confidence. This characteristic seems to attract and beguile quite a few people. Many people are strongly inclined to put confidence in a man who has a lot of self-confidence, almost disregarding that person's other qualities. I just saw a post here from a want-to-be Slider groupie, and I expect he will have more. But those who pay close attention & keep track of his predictions will see that he is not particularly successful. In the past he was always crowing repeatedly about the times he was right. And being misleading or lieing outright about the times he was wrong. It seemed that those who didn't look too deeply into his record were convinced he was very successful based on his repeated claims for himself. He did come up with some good ideas, its true, but lots of bad ones too. Many of the old 'Strictly..' posters had much better records of predicting, but they were normal people who didn't bluster and self-promote endlessly. They just said what they thought & explained their reasoning. It was very useful to have their input. Then the carnival came to town. I can see that the tone here is changing now that Slider is a regular. I can hear the calliope music playing. ---- If someone like Slider came into a room I was in, I would leave. And it would make me sad to stick around and watch BDBBR go down the toilet like 'Strictly Drilling...' did a couple of years ago. So I'm going to make this my last post here.
