Good morning George,

Based on Greenspan’s comments about inflation and its correlation between rising oil prices and his announcement that the feds were likely changing their policy to a more aggressive stance on interest rates on a go forward basis, I see this as a direct slap at the oil companies by Greenspan just as he did back in the early 2000 with his “Irrational over Exuberance” speech which was followed by a cut in the amount of margin that traders could leverage in their trading accounts from 80% to 50%.

The result in 2000 was that 10’s of thousands of traders had to sell 30% of their positions to lower their margin to meet the new lower margin requirement. That led to the bubble bursting.

If the fed gets overly aggressive with bumping up interest rates in an attempt to lower oil prices I fear that this will affect mortgage rates which will slow the housing market. If housing slows down, so will our entire economy.
