RT Trader Server update
As you know, we have been experiencing a lot of problems in keeping some of our servers up. Today, we finally isolated the cause of one of our major problems. It turned out to be a bug with Microsoft's SQL 6.50 Server software.
The SQL Server is where we keep all user tables, historical data, Global Scan results, etc. and is accessed continuously by other servers in our cluster to respond with the information that you request.
The bug turned out to be that SQL Server misreads the size of the transaction log file and keeps reporting that the log file is full, when in fact it is not. Every time any of our other servers tries to access the SQL Server, a log file is updated with the transaction. However, believing that the file was full, it would refuse access to the SQL Server, but write the assumed error condition to the log file and eventually our log file would grow to the point that there was no more room to write to and the system would stop functioning.
After spending hours with Microsoft, we finally uncovered this bug and have been able to implement a remedy until Microsoft provides a permanent fix to the problem.
We are continuing to work with Microsoft on a couple of other issues, as we feel that either our Windows NT 4.0 setup is not quite right, or if we are also facing another undocumented bug.
On another note;
A subscriber of ours advised us that he had been having a lot of problems staying connected to Sharon. He ultimately went to the Microsoft site and downloaded a couple of fixes to Windows 95 and his network performance improved immediately.
Microsoft has released a Windows 95 Service Pack 1, which fixes many Windows 95 bugs (one of which was a serious memory leak). It also has a number of post Service Pack 1 fixes as well. I would suggest that you download the various fixes to eliminate any buggy versions of DLLs.
Download the Service Pack and then the following individual fixes.
DLC32UPD.EXE VTCPUPD.EXE WSOCKUPD.EXE
You may find that these fixes will help.
I know our problems have been frustrating for you, and I have to tell you it hasn't been fun here either.
I'w keep you posted on any significant changes in the future.
