It never ceases to amaze me how you and others on this thread miss the bigger picture. You claim to be so sympathetic to the lives of American soldiers, yet you fail to realize that a Democratic Middle East will save thousands, perhaps tens of thousands or millions more American lives, if doing that will help us avert a WMD attack against the U.S.

You think that we can leave the Middle East to continue to be a cesspool of despotism and oppression and that Americans will enjoy freedom from attacks and death? You are wrong. With Middle East Democracy comes our surest bet for bringing peace to Americans.

Also, you are talking about American deaths in the tens of thousands, but American deaths have started to trend downwards in the last 3 months as Iraqi troops take on more of the burden. I track Iraqi war deaths too. Here's the site I have bookmarked: icasualties.org

You forget that we lost 3,000 in 9/11. If we lose 3,000 soldiers to help turn the Middle East Democratic and help avoid a repeat of 9/11 or worse, then it will have been worth it.

I think you need to wake up. The biggest threat to the U.S. is no longer Russia. It is terrorists with access to WMD. That is why we are at war in the Middle East. Anything less than a peaceful, Democratic Iraq is unacceptable.
