I would amend your statement as follows: Those without a SIGNED living will that expressly makes their wishes known, and where there is a FAMILY DISPUTE as to the decision, will not be disconnected so long as the family expressing their desire not to have the devices disconnected assume responsability for care of the patient. ]
The arguement that Terri will cost US hundreds of thousands of dollars to care for her is false. First off, her parents have offered to take her home and care for her themselves, (a feeding tube is not a complicated affair incapable of being administered at home) and secondly I am sure there would be mucho private donations available to cover costs for rehabilitation, minimal medical care etc.
IF people REALLY believe she is brain dead, they should realize she will die anyhow ultimately but at least peacefully at home in the loving care of her parents and siblings.
Whats going on here no is a gross injusice, not only to Terri but to her entire FAMILY. jdn
