"With reserve recruiting hitting the doldrums in 2005, the Army has raised the maximum enlistment age from 34 to 39 for the Army Reserve and National Guard, casting its recruiting net deeper and wider.

“The initiative is expected to boost recruiting but we don’t have any projected numbers at this time” as to how many more enlistments it could bring, said Maj. Elizabeth Robbins, an Army spokeswoman."


I give them credit for pulling out all stops, seeking creative solutions, and throwing tons of money at the problem.
We are trying big bonuses, direct appeals to parents, recruiters in battle uniforms, and now recruiting middle age men and women.

From a political point of view, it is necessary to do all that before asking for...well you know.

I haven't seen grey-haired Army Privates since they eliminated blood stripes. That ended the ability of a man to get busted down and then soldier to win the stripes back.
