The links existed, but there is nothing conclusive that IIS was behind the WTC bombing.. But it DOES show that they had contact, and thus, interests in common.


The most convincing arguments against Saddam-Al Qaeda linkage is that Saddam was a control freak, and would not have wanted to give too much to an organization that he did not control.

There is certainly evidence that Saddam was trying to develop homebrew terrorists (Uday's Fedayeeen, etc). There are persistent reports of some linkage and support from Iraqi intelligence to Ansar al Islam (obvious congruence of interests there) and to al Qaeda (ditto). The rapid cooperation between Zarqawi organization (whether it was originally part of the AQ franchise or not) and the Baathists in the insurgency also speaks to advance planning and cooperation.
