No, the older version, and I believe there is no way to upgrade.
actually, there is a way to upgrade. from the horse's mouth: microsoft.com
if you are trying to predict the future 10 years down the road
i never said anything about "10 years". MSFT has been known to run competitors out of business much faster than that.
I will say that the TiVo solution, right here and now, is MILES ahead of Media Center
since you incorrectly believed you could not upgrade when MSFT states otherwise, perhaps you should at least look at the new version before making such a statement. according to the article i cited, there are a lot of improvements.
like i said, i'm not saying MCE is better than Tivo today--although MCE 05 is apparently much better than 04, and does offer HDTV which Tivo does not. but i don't think you can state the opposite, either, since your opinion is obviously based on 04. in any case, my whole point in bringing up this discussion was looking out a couple years--not ten! a couple years is not too long a time frame to consider, imo--i don't think Tivo will even have its HDTV player out till next year.
this whole space of media integration is very fast-moving and in flux right now, it seems to me. a lot of very large players are focused on the space. he who ignores the 800-pound gorilla does so at his own peril. |
