"Given that most Tivo owners don't have HDTVs, it suggests you don't know what people value in a DVR."

so, don't tell me that i don't know about DVRs and standard TV.

I never did. Please re-read my quote above. I was talking about what people value. I wouldn't presume to know what you value, unless you tell us - which you did :)

you seem to not realize how much better HDTV is, presumably because you do not have an HDTV and HDTV service.

Partly guilty as charged, your honor. However, I have seen a HDTV set up. Picture quality was great, except for the artifacts that cropped up on the screen. Funny, when you've got just regular 'old tv, imperfections aren't nearly as annoying.

BUT I'm not arguing that HDTV doesn't look a whole lot better. I'm arguing that J6P doesn't care about the difference, not for the price tag that it carries. And I recognize that we disagree on this score, so perhaps we should leave it at that.

and yet they are going to pay $600 for a Tivo box with lifetime subscription? and do that for each and every one of their 2.4 TVs?

Refurbed 40-Hours are available for $49, brand new 40-Hours are $79 at Amazon, and brand new 80-Hours are currently available for $99. Also, service costs on your second tivo are $6.95/month, regardless of whether your first one is month-to-month or lifetime.

$56 is a pretty low entry point for a machine and 1st month's service. Lifetimed, that would be $348. $600 is downright inaccurate.

the problem with DVR adoption is that you have the middleman--the cableco--who screws things up.

I'm pretty sure that half of all households will have a DVR before the decade is out. Disagree?
