Canadians also took big casualties in the raid on Dieppe. The lessons learned in that brave but failed raid saved many American (and British, Canadian, and French) lives two years later on DDay.

But in America, we're mostly taught that we won WWII on our own. Oh, that short Brit Monty helped a bit, too. :)
