Ussurisk stripped of electrical equipment ....................

The Vladivostok News

Unidentified offenders stole support structures from seven towers maintaining power transmission lines which provide half of all electricity from Primorsky’s hydroelectric power station to the cities and settlements in southern Primorye, a statement from energy supplier Dalenergo said Thursday.

This has been the second case of power-line equipment theft this year in Ussurisk’s suburbs, the most unfavorable region in terms of industrial theft of this kind, the statement said.

A Dalenergo crew arrived on the spot of ‘Ussurisk 2 – Zapadnaya’ to set new support beams for the electricity transmission tower, which could have fallen down any moment. The police are currently searching for the criminals and the pilfered equipment, the statement indicated.

Overall, 35 thefts of bearings and cables and four cases of vandalism to Dalenergo’s electricity lines were registered in Primorye in 2004. The damage cost amounted to 2.6 million rubles ($92,900). Police managed to detain most of the offenders and the stolen equipment was either returned or recompensed to Dalenergo, the statement reported.
