Your friend's plight is precisely why we should have safety nets. It is precisely why Medicare/Medicaid/SS/Healthcare must be strengthened and not torn down.
I pay taxes for plenty of services which I never use. I have no problem with paying into the common pot which gets distributed unevenly based upon real need. Your ideology, however, says TOUGH LUCK to your friend. Bush says to your friend, go beg in the streets and hope someone is kind enough to help you live.
