Ford owns 1/3 of Mazda...the hybrid escape is mazda design. The standard Escape is joint design only by spirit. It's a Mazda engine and chassis. It's assembled in the US. Doesn't matter. All domestic makers are lagging WAY behind Toyota and Honda in hybrids.


The Escape Hybrid actually has an engine from Toyota.

Ford borrows from Toyota's blueprints for new hybrid Escape

Ford Motor (F) will use some technology from Toyota's hybrid engine for its hybrid Escape sport-utility vehicle, set to hit dealers this fall, the two automakers said Tuesday.

Ford says it will modify about 20 of the 370 patents that Toyota (TM) holds for its gas/electric hybrid technology, used in the Prius car.
