That quote was actually from me, in response to his earlier post. While I agreed with the first part of your message (and said so myself), I don't agree with the last. My elementary and middle school texts from the '60s very much downplayed the role of the Soviet Union in World War II. According to our texts at the time, we rescued the world almost singlehandedly.

The history texts today are much more accurate and well rounded than they were back during the Cold War.
