I don't know what to say about your father. There have been studies done, as I showed you, about dying this way, and it is not painful. This is the way most people die, and always have died. I am not a doctor, although I wish we had one hanging out here. Is it possible the way your father's kidneys failed is a different process from the gradual shutting down when food and water are withdrawn? Since that is not what happened with your father.

So are you saying you want to be kept alive by artificial means? You want a feeding tube for fifteen years even if you have no brain activity or awareness of yourself or your surroundings? Do you think it is possible that this decision was in Terri Schiavo's best interests?

I have now read a news report on the web about Tom DeLay's father. It does seem that you are correct that he did not have a feeding tube. There are still several similarities between these two cases:

"Both patients were severely brain-damaged. Both were incapable of surviving without continuing medical assistance. Both were said to have expressed a desire to be spared life sustained by machine. And neither left a living will."
