The mechanical parts that have been installed but never tried are the stirring mechanism for the feedstock storage tanks and a pump with a critical role.

The pump is redundant, that is, there are more than one, and one can be replaced while the other is operating simply by opening and closing valves. A different pump has been ordered with (I hope) a longer time before failure. I don't know what the previous pump's failure rate was, but Paul says this new one should be better. As I recall from the raw data sent to the LPs, the pump that handles the output product is run at around 68% of capacity at around 600 GPH.

The stirring mechanism was ordered because there seemed to be stratification of the feedstock while it waited to be processed. This caused uneven performance of the process which was hard to control. Part of the problem, in my opinion, was the very slow use of the feedstock caused by the artificially low rate of use, 275 GPH. Other delays in the process were caused by engineering tests and parts replacement. The feedstock had plenty of time in the storage tank to stratify. Even in normal use, feedstock could spend a lot of time waiting to be used because feedstock supplies are opportunistic in nature. In other words, when they see a huge supply of waste fuel or oil somebody wants to get rid of quickly, GRNO may have to store a lot of feedstock for a while.

There were no changes to the basic process itself, just changes to these peripherals. But with any change, there is some uncertainty how it all will work until the system is actually operated.
