This implies that security can never be turned over to Iraqis as long as Americans want to fly to Baghdad. Is that what you meant to say?

Eventually, it will be safe. But there is a war going on in Iraq, in case you haven't noticed.

There is not a war going on in Iraq today; rather, their is a guerilla insurgency who's only legitimacy is provided by.......us.

So what's YOUR timeline for handing security responsibility for that road (which is part of the sovereign nation of Iraq) back to the Iraqis? Don't give me the vague party line of "as long as it takes".....

Why does there have to be a timeline?

Because sooner is better than later (in my opinion), and it may be 4-5-6 DECADES before them guerillas give up, if ever. It's like the US deciding to police Northern Ireland until it goes two years without a terrorist attack, ie., a retarded idea.

The whole idea was to remove Saddam and provide the Iraqis with the opportunity to be a democratic society. That goal is accomplished. It's time to leave the country and let the new government establish legitimacy themselves.
