"Common sense would say the US is not going to invade another country and then have zero presence in that country after 2 months"

True. But they worked very hard at giving the impression that the time would be very short. When someone would raise the possibility that it would take hundreds of thousands of troops years or decades to stabilize the country, they were shouted down as being totally unrealistic.

Well I live outside the country and didn't hear these comments at the time, so please provide data which supports the idea that the Bush administration was saying coalition troops would be out of Iraq within months. I doubt it exists. The previous post by Ted supporting that view had administration officials saying the battle (with an Iraqi army, I assume) would be over within months, and it was.

If Bush and his team told you that the US would be out of Iraq within months of the invasion's start, you've got a point, but that statement hasn't been made as far as I know.

talked about how the draw down would start within weeks of final combat, etc., etc.

where and when did "they" say this?
