I heard this issue discussed on the radio the other day. Heard someone taking your position. Heard no definitive resolution between the two disagreeing sides, but I'd guess that explanation has to do with the fact that we swallow on purpose in order to eat. Terri just swallows "autonomically." As some nursing professionals have said, if she didn't swallow, she'd drown on her own saliva. She has had no tube sucking saliva out, hence she must swallow. She surely has "autonomically" swallowed that jello as alleged, and might just do the same with baby food, for all I know. But it would probably be a real time-consumer just getting enough slowly in her without her choking, I'd guess.
