I'm not sure... it makes more sense to me to begin the regression lines where the trend changes. So... if you want to use regression to come to conclusions about a trend, then it seems most appropriate to include as much of that trend as possible, but also to exclude other data points that are not part of that trend. And, I think the trend shifted right at the end of the year, where the correction began.

The major difference is that with the longer setting you seem to catch some of the tail end of the uptrend, so that widens the regression channel significantly, particularly to the upside.
