There are certain "traditions" in sports I just don't understand, the four corners stall with two minutes to play being near the top (squibbing the kickoff in football late in the game being #1). The reason is that part and parcel with the stall comes the "do not foul" philosophy. Essentially you've canned whatever aggressiveness you likely had to get you your lead. Every time I see a team let their opponent's point guard dribble down the length of the court for a quick layup (4.5 seconds to be exact), I yell at the TV. Worst case, if you pick the guy up at half court and foul, you've perhaps wasted 1.5 seconds. But if you play solid defense and foul, even if they make both free throws you've more than likely achieved your objective of chewing up more clock.
