If there is a principle that unites the left side of the political spectrum, it is a belief that an energetic government can effectively use progressive taxation to insure the poor, the unlucky and the elderly against undue hardship Yes, this is the left's CORE belief. And they haven't got the guts to run on it. Because they know if they did, they would lose by big margins, instead of small. So they lie when they run. And they still lose, but not by as much. The right's CORE belief is the opposite, and they run on it openly. This is why they are winning. The right doesn't live up to their core belief in practice while claiming they do. The left does live up to their core belief in practice, while denying it.
