Hi Sam,
Think its the old containment policy rearing its ugly head. South Asia is a natural barrier to Chinese expansion and now China wont be able to play regional games as they used to when they supported Pakistan against India. This is all in recognition of MQ fear of chinese expansionism. On one side you have the US and Island states concerned with chinese imperialism and on the other South Asia. Hot spots can always be the border areas like NK and even NVn as well as places like Taiwan.
China needs to be a world power, yes but there have to be some constraints on that power and in Asia, i think the US has it largely right. Mike
