dabum, we are running a marathon here not a sprint, let's see who is ahead at the end of the year on ATPG before declaring victory of TA over FA shall we?

Taking into account taxes (and my combined Fed & state tax bracket is about 43% for STCG) one would have lost $2.50/share in profits after tax by "capturing" the $6 in profit that ATPG generated when it went up to $26, vs. where it is today. Not sure that TA could have really predicted that the $26 was the time to sell, but let's give you the benefit of the doubt.

So as of right now you are $3.50/share (i.e. $6 less $2.50 tax) ahead of me, who did not sell. If the stock closes the year at $26 then (since the stock will have become LTCG property for me by then) I will be ahead of you by the difference between STCG and LTCG rates. By buying back in now you have also reset the clock on getting an LTCG on your new investment, which may cause you some agita next year because you may not want to be holding this turkey through another 10K filing.
