I have to agree with Charles (at least his first sentence).

Tell me how you make an iPod, an iMac, and a Powerbook.

In fact, I think the odds favor that Andy will come up with a better price-performing Opteron server with attractive features that you can't get from Dell or even IBM.

Where I think the odds are longer is how well Sun will sell it.

If McNealy goes off on another annoying badmouth campaign against the world, or Sun doesn't figure out how to compensate their sales force while SPARC machines still carry a higher margin, then bets are off.

And you're right, Sun's current miserable financial track record is another obstacle to big sales that would have to be overcome by attractiveness of the product.
