If the educators are getting closer to the right balance now, is it possible that they were close to a right balance when we were educated. Demogaphics have changed dramatically.
WASPs were the majority, negros were the largest minority. Catholics, Jews WASPs and other caucasians have to be combined to get a slim majority now, and soon the combined group will be a minority. Colored folk began to be overtaken by Mexicans, until now we have Hispanics being the largest minority overtaking blacks. In not too distant future, hispanics will be the largest demographic group.
My intended point, besides using the label of the era, was that the shift that we are both observing may be driven by the changing racial demographics. Forty years ago, Europeans dominated; and now we are receiving more Asians, Middle Easterners etc. into our culture, and the history of those cultures is becoming increasingly relevant.
