When the bid ask was 8 3/4 to 10, Steve Patterson said that they would sell him some shares every now and then at 9. This is somewhat different than your situation in that you had offered to pay 12 7/8.

Two scenarios that I can think of, 1. Someone at your brokerage firm wanted to sell 500 shares at 12 1/8 so they by passed the market makers and just swapped the shares. This has happened to me before with ETRADE.

2. Maybe the market makers are trying to create the preception that people are selling to generate more sellers at a lower price so they have more shares to sell and catch up at the higher prices?
