That is a very nice site to learn Gaelic, Ionesco. Thanks for sharing it.

Now my daughter bought me a book of Irish love poems for my birthday. This is the lament of a young girl married to an old man, a lyric recorded in the Red Book of Ossory, collected by Richard Ledrede, the bishop of Ossory (1316-1360).

I find it haunting, and have read it over and over, but I don't think I fully understand it. Interpretive assistance would be much appreciated, from anyone who thinks they have an idea:

Alas how should I sing?
Yloren is my playing.
How should I with that old man
To leven and leave my leman,
Sweetest of all thing?
