To Mike A. Forte: Response from Novell Education re NW 4.11 exam

I am posting this response in behalf of the author who is from Novell's Education department (identified at the end). Note that she asks for a response via the 1-800 number provided at the end.

Mike:
I'm really glad you only want your forum to discuss good stuff about Novell, so I am taking the time to set some thing right. I received information about your concerns and issues. I would like to provide you with some information and suggestions.

I think you are misinformed about who the company is that is offering the practice tests for $84.00. The company is Self Test Software selftestsoftware.com and is not a Novell company. We promote and advertise a practice test that is free to our customers. It is called The Guide and is available at most NAECs. I am sending one to your address today. I have found everyone who uses it, raves about how it helps them before the actually attempt a certification test.

Please provide me with where you are getting the information 'that the path and the exams for MSCE are free'. I just checked with the testing center and they quoted $100 for a Microsoft test and $85 for a Novell test. My understanding is that our costs are comparable. I also understand that the real bargain is to take Novell classes. Why, NAECs tell me that their customers can pass both Novell and Microsoft tests by taking Novell classes. If a customer takes Microsoft they can usually pass the Microsoft tests but not Novell tests. This tells me that Novell really does provide the solution for it's customers and really does understand the enterprise world they work in.

Your issues about not passing the test. I recommend that the best way to pass our certification tests is to properly prepare for them. I have found that customers who primarily work on NetWare 3 and do not work actively on a NetWare 4 have difficultly passing the test without proper training. That could be the reason why you passed NW3 and not NW4.11. There is quite a difference in the product. Statically, most of our customer are very successful in passing the tests the first time. We recommend that the best way to prepare for certification testing is to attend an Novell Authorized Education center and obtain CNI instructor lead training. Novell Press materials provide a rich text-based training supplement. These reference books are important resources for the IT training student. Depending on a student's learning style, a combination of text-based information and instructor-led may be the perfect learning solution.
Please give me a call at your earliest convenience and let me see if we can improve your satisfaction with our products and services.
