But, when Bt is applied, the application is stopped prior to harvest. There is also a higher level of biodiversity in sprayed Bt products. By having it in the plant itself as a single genetic insertion and not ever shutting it off as would be the case for bacterial Bt deployments, we create a process where insects could develop an immunity through selective pressures much like what we have seen in the use of pesticides or antibiotics.

It isn't "nutty" to be cautious about GMO and other agricultural practices. There are many scientists who feel that the profit motive and not the need or scientific safety have driven the introduction of GMO into the food chain. There have been several studies that have shown that GMO yields aren't necessarily higher due to complex factors, from biodiversity to resistant weed selection effects. I realize that you've had good results and I don't know what strains you've been planting. But your results don't necessarily represent the typical case.

There is a direct analogy between the rather careless introduction of GMO and the use of mercury or radiation in times past, though. Some of these lessons we learned only through large scale contamination and error.
