2nd Annual Ardour Capital Energy Technology Conference
Ardour Capital and Coudert Brothers hosted their second annual Energy Technology Conference October 21 at Coudert's New York offices. The daylong conference brought together over 40 attendees from top North American and European institutional investment firms to listen to 12 leading energy technology firms give an update on recent business developments and visions of how energy technologies can provide solutions for many of today’s generating, distributing and portable power challenges. Technologies covered included fuel cells, batteries, photovoltaics, power electronics, flywheels, and high-temperature superconducting products. As was the case last year, a number of participants expressed their pleasure in the quality of the event.
This years Keynote speaker was Peter R. Smith, President of the New York Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). Mr. Smith explained the importance of fostering new and innovative energy technologies in New York and across the Nation. He also provided many examples of how the State was building out the infrastructure needed to service and support clean and renewable energy technologies. Later in the day, Bob Lane, Advisor on Policy and Planning for the California Public Utilities Commission gave an update on how California was setting into place many programs and initiatives to support clean, efficient, and renewable energy technology development throughout the State. Both of these speakers explained to the audience how their respective State officials see new energy technologies not only as a means to improve the efficient use of energy, but how they are drivers for high-tech jobs and a means to support a strong and forward-looking business community.
In their presentations, all of the speakers touched on one of three broad themes: enabling solutions for power transmission challenges; making distributed and mobile energy resources practical; and improving manufacturing techniques to provide a competitive advantage.
