I don't think you are getting it. Our use of oil is a tax on the economy. If we innovated our way out of the use of oil through the use of hybrids, demand would go DOWN, not up. That would for all practical purposes mean less taxes on our society by our oil masters. To bring it back to your parable of the broken window. Oil is like that little kid who broke the window. If we get rid of the little kid, then all of us will be free to spend money on other things including more investment in promising new markets to create the virtuous cycle of innovation and wealth.
