my take is that the government has a deal to provide china whatever they want to do capitalism, consumer goods, infrastructure, etc., as fast as possible just as long as the chinese people don't make waves with the government. the current generation is ok with this, and not many people make political waves. they get punished if they do. when another generation comes in, and it won't be too many years, there will be some problems with this current deal between the government and the people. for now many, many chinese are quite pleased to have lots of goods and jobs. the overriding issue to me, also, are the state owned enterprises, which are the money losing industries carried over from the old communist regime days. that is a huge people problem no one has a solution for.
