re: ["When China makes the RMB convertable and follows the rule of law, the Shanghai stock market will take off."]

When Frogs have wings - they won't bump their butts when they hop...

Pretty big "whens" there...

Frogs having Wings & China following the Rule of Law.

PS: Earth to Commander Cricket

- China can not "float" the RMB...it will be re-pegged.

And as far as "when China follows the rule of law, the Shanghai market will take off"...

What ?

There are a helluva lot more reasons than China not following the rule of law for the Shanghai Markets languishing at 6 year lows.

- do you have any equally simplistic answers for Japans decade+ old Bear Market ?

Certainly your point can not be that China doesn't have a corrupt, broken and insolvent Banking System in addition to corrupt markets ?

KB is correct...China has brought 250 Million People out of poverty in a relative short period of time.

But, it's the 1.15 Billion left behind that creates the impossibility of the much over-hyped and much mis-understood China story.

Many Booms to Bust await China...just as they awaited the Industrialization of America many decades ago.

The China story is not going to unfold without a Market-Shaking Blow Up ...and it's already started.

The Geopolitical/Military threat...is yet another story & Mr. Bush is in the process of handling that one as well imho.
