The reasons for inspections was that we did not know, the Europeans did not know -- inspections were the best way to find out. The UN inspectors had been out of Iraq for some time -- having them back in provided very valuable intel that had been missing for years. The Europeans did not want to go to war in an environment where there seemed like a very good possibility that Iraq noi longer possessed anything of significance, and nothing that would cause concern as a threat. They were right. We played the cowboy and rode into town with guns blazing -- and we were dead wrong.
