longnshort, Michael Schiavo did not walk away and turn his wife's care over to her parents because he was determined to carry out her expressed wishes of long ago. Several court proceedings were conducted and all held that it would not have been Terri Schiavo's intent to be kept "alive" in the condition she had been in for 15 years. The Schiavos were not newlyweds. They had been married for six year at the time Terri Schiavo was stricken. There is no particular money for Michael Schiavo to inherit, the malpractice award being all but depleted over the years, initially for various therapies for Terri Schiavo, then for her custodial care, and then for legal expenses--approved by the court--necessitated by the Schindlers repeatedly hauling Michael Schiavo into court. The short answer is that I do not believe Michael Schiavo deserves vilification for not abandoning his wife to the self-centered demands of her parents. - Holly
