Protections - they call it. You may be right and perhaps there should be some easing so that we all can have our little piece of a hedge fund.

But that's not really the issue here. Hedge funds need to have the same disclosures and regulations as mutual funds, adapted perhaps to varying strategies and sizes of funds. Further, hiding many or key transactions offshore through trading desks or through related entities makes it very difficult to determine if there is manipulation or other violations of the Securities Acts and regulations thereunder, including 10(b)-5. Markets are becoming global and the entire universe of trading needs to be investigated and regulated through treaties and negotiation.

It's time that hedgies were put under a microscope, given they are estimated to be part of 1/2 our equity markets. Let's make sure they are playing by the same rules that the rest of us have to use.
